My dream was to become an artist since I was 14-15 years old, a-full-time-artist!
Perhaps, I was one of the few teenagers among my friends and classmates that had chosen a profession, although for many people Art might not seem like an occupation. Some, were following their parents’ footsteps and they were planning to become a doctor or an engineer, because it was in their blood. Some, were forced by their parents to become a doctor or an engineer. For those who had no idea of their likes and interests, ….. well, they planned to get married, even accepted arranged marriage!
I still can hear my mom then, telling me: “all artists become famous after they die in poverty! So, choose a career that you can depend on for your life and be able to support your self. If you become an artist, you will get nowhere.” Maybe she was right, maybe she was wrong. How would I know if I don’t try it? Since I was refusing to go to university in any other field, she put me in a dressmaking course and I hated it! How can I be good in something that I don’t like?
I think, maybe if I insisted strongly in my beliefs then, I would’ve succeeded in persuading her to let me pursue my passion. I was not a tough kid then, in contrary I was naive and timid and was living in fear of disappointing my family most of the time since I was not able to meet their expectations and rules of conducts.
To make the story short, dressmaking was not in my forte, therefore I had decided to become a fashion designer. At least it was in the designing field and was a choice that would conclude her beliefs and my talent together. Regardless, this career and other occupations that I had all these years never satisfied my longing for art.

Now I am in my 40s, and I believe it’s never too late to make your dream come true. Therefore, I enrolled in a 3 year Visual Art Program, and I have been accepted after an interview! I am so excited and thrilled that after all these years I will finally do something that I always wanted to do.
That was my second step toward my passion to achieve my goal. The first step was to quit my job!
It’s never too late to start fresh in what you believe in. Be brave and confident to follow what is in your heart, and the universe will harmonize in your favour.
What’s your dream or passion?
