My hand-carved sculpture is a tale of man and woman as a symbol for all human beings united through their hearts, souls, and energies. They are united under the Azure Dome and protected by the One Blue Sky. They exist through their centers and through hearts full of life and energy – which is now ONE.
Through personal insights into human existence, I have displayed the oneness between human beings and the universe. At the same time, the stone guided me through and showed me the path, brought me closer to nature and its core value. Looking at my sculpture, I believe that you can hear my message and the message of this stone, a stone which has witnessed many tales.
There are many elements, topics, and meanings that can be found in this piece of art. Possible points of focus include:
A man and woman: Symbolizing the unity and oneness of human beings
The Azure Dome: The protection that comes from a higher power
A Horse: Symbolizing power, grace, beauty, strength, and freedom – a link between earth and heaven
An Elephant: Symbolizing the qualities of wisdom and knowledge
A Hand: A token of peace and protection
As an observer, one is free to find, through one’s own imagination, many other expressions in this piece of artwork.
We learned to carve in first year of the Visual Arts Program at school on a Plaster/Vermiculite block. For someone with no previous experience in sculpture, nevertheless in carving, it was a challenge learning new techniques.
One week after school finished, I bought a Brazilian soapstone, had my sketches ready and started carving. I had no idea what to expect. I was thinking it should be the same as the block that I carved for the school project, but it wasn’t!
At first I was eager to finish it fast to see the result, but I learned that it’s not that easy and I shouldn’t rush.
This was a great experience for me considering I have no patience.
In this journey, I’ve learned to be patient. I’ve learned to enjoy the process. And most of all I have learned to communicate with the piece. It was like the stone is communicating through me, it’s guiding me through a path, it’s talking to me. I felt like I am far, far away, in the heart of nature. I was in tune with nature. I was one with it! Some kind of spiritual connection with nature through the stone, that is not describable and was exciting and overwhelming.
So, I learned a LOT in this process and enjoyed it immensely!
