My hand-carved sculpture is a tale of man and woman as a symbol for all human beings united through their hearts, souls, and energies. They are united under the Azure Dome and protected by the One Blue Sky. They exist through their centers and through hearts full of life and energy – which is now ONE.
Through personal insights into human existence, I have displayed the oneness between human beings and the universe. At the same time, the stone guided me through and showed me the path, brought me closer to nature and its core value. Looking at my sculpture, I believe that you can hear my message and the message of this stone, a stone which has witnessed many tales.
There are many elements, topics, and meanings that can be found in this piece of art. Possible points of focus include:
- A man and woman: Symbolizing the unity and oneness of human beings
- The Azure Dome: The protection that comes from a higher power
- A Horse: Symbolizing power, grace, beauty, strength, and freedom – a link between earth and heaven
- An Elephant: Symbolizing the qualities of wisdom and knowledge
- A Hand: A token of peace and protection
As an observer, one is free to find, through one’s own imagination, many other expressions in this piece of artwork.
My first Soapstone Sculpture!
We learned to carve in first year of the Visual Arts Program at school on a Plaster/Vermiculite block. For someone with no previous experience in sculpture, nevertheless in carving, it was a challenge learning new techniques.
One week after school finished, I bought a Brazilian soapstone, had my sketches ready and started carving. I had no idea what to expect. I was thinking it should be the same as the block that I carved for the school project, but it wasn’t!
At first I was eager to finish it fast to see the result, but I learned that it’s not that easy and I shouldn’t rush.
This was a great experience for me considering I have no patience.
In this journey, I’ve learned to be patient. I’ve learned to enjoy the process. And most of all I have learned to communicate with the piece. It was like the stone is communicating through me, it’s guiding me through a path, it’s talking to me. I felt like I am far, far away, in the heart of nature. I was in tune with nature. I was one with it! Some kind of spiritual connection with nature through the stone, that is not describable and was exciting and overwhelming.
So, I learned a LOT in this process and enjoyed it immensely!
I was so busy these past few months with my school projects that I couldn’t catch my breath, and I still am! But today after a long absence I felt like having a new post.
Here it is my latest work: a bronze medallion!
Title: ME & THE UNIVERSE
The subject of my art is “me” in Persian (pronounced MANN).
My approach is to attain perfection through spiritual growth. Through spiritual growth, I experience self-realization and self-awareness. This means that I am gaining a clear vision about my place in the universe, the universe in which I find my individual entity. This clear vision (about the universe) leads me to believe that I am a conscious part of the universe and the universe flows in me. This is the reason why I am experiencing a unity between the universe and me.
I am an individual in unity with the universe. The universe has become aware in me and I am aware that the universe is working within me to bring out my individual gifts. When I actualize my personal gifts (which are given to me by the universe), I gain direction.
This is the reason why I have come to understand where I have come from and where I am heading. I know that I am more than a body. I am as vast as the universe. Whatever I gain, grasp, and learn in this world become a part of me and will be transferred to the afterlife. I believe that the universe is not separated from me and I am one with the universe. This oneness is my subject in my art.
Love & Peace
He is born in 1956 and this specific art work installed at the entrance for greetings and welcoming visitors. Earthenware with Slips was used in this piece with the title of “Apparently”, created in 1999.
At first, one would see 3 tall vases close to each other but with different shapes and colour contrast. When looked deeper at the shapes you can see a boy and a girl looking at each other in the negative space between vases.
One has to have a strong and powerful vision of creating such shapes and slips on the vases to bring the illusion of human body and form. The positive and negative spaces and varieties of bright colours gives a Joyful conjunction.
The contrast of two black on the sides with the colourful stripes in the centre catches the eye and emphasizes more at the centre piece which at the same time harmonizes the balance between them.
The lively illusion of characters looks as if they were about to start a folkloric dance. There is an impression of music in the background, playing off colours and joyous dances in a happy celebration. The composition works so well that the gender can be differentiated.
This art work is a showcase of hope and innocence conveyed by the forms of children along side of history and cultural, symbolized by different colour and surface treatment is cleverly imagined, planned and implemented and shows the artist’s vision, sensitivity and technical expertise.
The layered vessels with stripes and bursts of colour, and the spaces between them that reveals images of a boy and a girl makes an impressive affect. These hidden images show that beauty is found not only in what is built but in the quality of the spaces in-between these creations to an observant visitor!
This ceramic art work brought so much interest in me that some research was required and compiling to get a grasp of this artist and his works. It brought great pleasure to find out that he is a Canadian born artist.
- The piece encourages strong feelings in me as I see an immense authentic similarity between human and clay. Clay forms through fire, the same way, human forms through life experience and knowledge. It is the life challenges that shape mortals, just as the artist design and build the clay. - It is designed, organized and executed to the perfection that not only the vertical lines are in conjunction and harmony in form and colour, it also gives the viewer the sense of dimension in a reality effect. The effect that is conceptual and untouchable. It offers a powerful feeling of emotion as if these ceramics are whispering their thoughts and stories in a philosophical way.

What do you feel about these artworks?
In a sunny, mild and beautiful day, we were picnicking in a side-city park, on a labour day weekend. Many people walking long side the beach with their dogs. Then, an unusual pet, a snake, came along with his owner! It was kind of surprising and mysterious.
While the owner was taking the walk, some people with hesitation but curious, got closer to ask him questions.
It was triggering for us too to take advantage of this exclusive show. I mean, how many times you see a person walking around, so casual, with his snake pet?
So the mystique site did its job, and my friend and I, hesitantly walked toward the snake and its owner. When we got closer he was explaining that he has 4 of them 2 females and 2 males, and that this one was kind of bored, therefore he took him for a walk! He also explained that there is no danger to us if we want to pet him. So we did, and contrary to my imagination, he was soft, gentle and mushy.
Although it was a bit scary but I liked the experimentation.

My first week of a 3 year adult visual art program!
I cannot describe the feeling of joy and gratefulness!
The feeling of “belonging”. The feeling of “utmost gratefulness”. The feeling of “I think, therefore I am”. The feeling of “walking on cloud nine”. The feeling of “blissfulness”. The feeling of “life make sense”. The feeling of “peacefulness”. The feeling of “Love”.
It’s really hard to recount how you would feel when you are going back in time. Like there was no gap of emptiness; all these years. Or the past unfairness no longer matters; as I found my way to righteousness.
Leaving my job and going back to school was an immense decision to make. The decision that I was postponing for all these years because of fear. The fear of what will arise if I come out of this maze that I was living in; like a mouse.
Know that fear is the worst enemy of your life and soul. Acknowledging it, it is liberating, so you can be ‘YOU‘.
I don’t look into past since it’s too heavy to carry it forward. I will just live in NOW from now on. Yes, not a single regret nor a sigh, since I am in place of a morale high!!

I worked with Parvaneh Etemadi, a famous contemporary Iranian artist, over a six months period, in 1992-3. She is one of the greatest teacher that I ever had. I learned a lot from her. Her artworks are fascinating by its serene beauty that is mesmerizing. Pomegranate, lace and termeh, three elements of ancient persian, are largely used in her harmonious paintings with pencils.
You can see some influences of her brilliant artworks in my “Pomegranate” painting. I used soft pastel on a French Canson paper.
